Observation Narrative
Plot captures a small portion of a large, multi-patch upland depression complex. Parts of this depression complex outside of sample area are bisected by ditches and roads, and support vegetation that is fairly young. Much of the area was probably cleared decades ago. .The area sampled is near the edge and contains older trees. It also has a high cover by Sphagnum mosses and a relatively open canopy created by death of two canopy trees. Medium- to large-diameter Quercus phellos dominate, but a few Quercus palustris also occur in the overstory. Many small-diameter Liquidambar styraciflua and Nyssa sylvatica make up most of the understory. The herb flora is sparse.
